Walmart’s got iPhone

feature photo

So, many of us probably heard or read about the rumors that Walmart would be selling the Apple iPhone, well here it is, front page of their insert this morning’s Boston Sunday Globe. I know, I know, what’s the big deal, a 2 dollar savings? Well, there are 2,000 Walmarts that will be selling the phone, so it’s pretty much a guarantee that there’s one near you, where you might not have an Apple store.

Oh, you have a Best Buy near by? And they are offering the phone at $190 for the 8 GB and $290 for the 16 GB you say? Well, the scoop is that Walmart managers have authority to match any local authorized reseller, like Best Buy. Click here for an enlarged image.

    Zach,

You've left out that ATT is offering iPhones for $99 through the end of the year. Which may or may not indicate they're clearing channel prior to upgrades announced at Mac World (64GB anyone?)

  • Those are refurbished iPhones (8GB), so they have a limited supply. They only have black. Also, they're selling the 16GB, both black and white, for $199.

Apple got the prime spot in the front of the Consumer Electronics Area in both ipods and iPhones. As you enter the area you then see the other phones and the other mp3 players which makes Apple stand out (as in the Apple products are special and not run of the mill like all the others). BestBuy does the same thing with Apple getting prime spot in phones and a special set off area for computers.

Another note, at Walmart and Bestbuy the iphones are working units. Rimm has no working units. If you want to see a storm in action you have to go to Circuit City which does not have macs or iphones. Seems odd to me that no one else gives a full phone demo.

Its the subscriptions, not the device. Its the halo effect, not the device. Its making people mac owners, now instead of later. That's the most significant thing of it all.
