Book Review: The New Day Trader Advantage

The New Day Trader Advantage

by Jon D. Markman

Review by Wilderness member: Thom

Markman is a columnist for MSN Money and I like that since I find that MSN Money is more Bearish than Yahoo Finance or any of the other MainStream financial portals. This book really is more about Swing Trading than Day Trading but it is full of some very good ideas.

The best thing I got out of this book is the S&P comparison charts. It walks you through the creation of charts that compare the relative performance of every major Dow indices and ETFs to the S&P. This took my wife and I a long Sunday but It’s well worth it.  The idea is to check the charts every sunday afternoon and see which sector or etf is beating the S&P or is about to.  From there you drill down to find out the strongest companies inside those sectors or which companies are overweighted in the given ETF.  I have found a ton of great companies and or opportunities, not all of which I played but I watched.  It had Brewers on my list in March and if you look at BUD and SAM you see they would’ve been very good plays.  It put SWC on my map in February and I made huge profits for the months of Feb and March. It’s a pretty darn good book.
