Apple Takes Bite out of Microsoft

feature photo

Apple’s Mac Desktop market share hit an all time high of 7.8% in May according to Fortunes Apple 2.0 blog. This increase is in stark contrast to February, March and April where the Mac’s market share was either stagnant or slightly down. Microsoft is feeling the bite as this increase comes directly at the expense of Windows market share as it drops to an all time low. It should be noted that Microsoft still dominates the world-wide desktop market share with all its incantations of the Windows operating system.

But Microsoft is definitely not happy with this development, as they seek to retaliate by issuing a security advisory, warning Windows users to stay clear of Safari for Windows, which claims that attackers can exercise an exploit called carpet bombing, where iFrames can repeatedly download content. Microsoft doesn’t provide any details about the severity of the problem, because the fact is that it’s a minor problem, as it’s highly unlikely to affect any significant number of users.

Seems ironic Microsoft issuing such a warning. I don’t recall them advising their users not to use Internet Destroyer after any of the thousands of exploits that continue to plague that browser to this day. Apple is aware of the problem, but has no immediate plans to fix the problem, perhaps in a future OS update.

In early 2008, NPD Research reported Apple's share of the U.S. retail computer market at 14%. And IDC says Macs now represent 6% of the overall U.S. computer and notebook market, with Apple's shipments growing at a rate of 25% in recent months. In comparison, the global PC market grew only 14.6% during that same period, and the overall U.S. computer market grew just 3.5%.

Oh boy Mr Balmer, your Monkey Dance won't help you with this one. Sounds like since Bill left the store keys with you, everything is going to hell.
